Two Americans were stabbed at the Amsterdam Central Station on Friday, in what authorities described as a “terrorist attack”, according to initial statements from the suspect. The 19-year-old man, a citizen of Afghanistan, but holding German residency papers, was shot and detained by Dutch police. Initial statements to the authorities led the investigators to determine that this was an act of terrorism. He has been identified as “Jawed S.” due to Dutch privacy rules.
Both Americans are recovering in the hospital, and Ambassador Pete Hoekstra has issued a written statement stating that embassy officials have been in contact with the victims and their families. Both victims, with serious but not life-threatening injuries, are expected to survive.
Meanwhile, German officials have conducted a search of the terrorist’s home and have reportedly seized computer data storage devices.
