Weekend Safety Brief 6JUL18

AT EASE! Rest….

I hope everyone who didn’t take leave enjoyed Independence Day – and I hope that you took time to watch The Patriot, and get your fireworks fix. I know that the kids and I did. IT caused me to reflect quite a bit on how much government has changed since the Constitution was ratified.  It seems to me that the Founding Fathers would think us all fools for allowing such taxation, such infringement, and such control to be placed upon us.  Say what you will about living documents, and the times changing – but I would insist that we have accepted the yoke of government without much more than mumbling in complaint.

Consider that among the many reasons (enumerated below), that the 13 United Colonies chose to declare independence that July so many years ago, was a tax on a beverage.  Now it can be argued that is was anywhere from less than 1% to over 66% – but that is academic.  In fact, in some localities, soda is taxed at a rate of 75%.  Of course, I don’t drink soda normally – unless it is cut with rum.  And I don’t even want to get into the taxes on spirits.  I guess that Whiskey Rebellion settled that shit.  Look at the fact that modern gasoline taxes average almost 47% across the nation – its ridiculous.

Now before you start going off about having to pay for roads and schools and what-all – remember that we spend far more on social programs than on *anything* else except for defense – which is one of the FEW things that are specifically spelled out as being the purview of the Federal government in the Constitution.  Further, I am not condoning a rebellion to set things right.  All I am saying is that we need fiscal responsibility that would make the likes of Hamilton proud – instead of rolling over in his grave.

Bibamus Moriendum Est!

Have a good weekend –

Don’t add to or subtract from the population.

Stay out of the news, jail, and the troop-med.

If you end up in the slammer – don’t be bubba’s bitch.

Strippers and hookers are future dependas – just don’t.

Roll in fire teams.

Check your sled before you ride.

Platoon Sergeants – get them out of my sight.
