After nearly a 24-hour standoff with a barricaded suspect. Police find the suspect and the four children that were taken hostage dead.
Orlando Police Chief Mina released a statement on Monday night saying that SWAT Officer were attempting to deliver a phone to 35-year-old, Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr., who had taken 4 children hostage and had barricaded himself inside an Orlando apartment complex. Mina further stated that as the officers approached the apartment, an officer saw that one of the children was dead. The officers made entry into the apartment to recuse the other children. Once inside, they found Lindsey dead inside a closet, and the other three children dead inside.
Chief Mina said that this was a very tragic end to a nearly 24-hour standoff.
New reports indicate the SWAT Officers had been trying to contact Lindsey all day, but due to poor phone reception, the phone call kept disconnecting.
The identities of the children have not been released, but Chief Mina said the children’s ages were 1, 7, 10, and 12.
The officer that was wounded during the initial contact with Lindsey, has been identified as Officer Kevin Valencia. Valencia taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. He is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Chief Mina said that Valencia has been with the Orlando Police Department for approximately 2 years.
Court records indicate that Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. 35 had an extensive criminal history involving arson, battery and theft.
