Gruntworks Sunday Sermon

Sunday Sermon – 30 Apr 17

Greetings Brothers and Sisters!

So last week I breached the subject of giants in the Bible.  Everyone knows of the story of David and Goliath.  Lesser known are the other giants.  Giants have been present since not long after creation.

One of the earliest mentions is in Genesis.

Genesis 6:4

“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them”

Genesis 14: 5-7:

In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and attacked the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim, and the Horites in their mountain of Seir . . . . Then they turned back and came to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and attacked all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who dwelt in Hazezon Tamar.

This doesn’t mention them as giants, but if we read further we find that the Amorites “whose height was like the height of cedars, and strong as oaks.”  Here is the full text from the book of Amos 2:9-10

Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was as strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath. Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite

So what was the general height of the giants throughout the Bible?  King Of of Bashan was roughly thirteen feet tall (13 Ft).  Bigger than Goliath.Birdietown Ad

Next Sunday I’ll speak on the efforts by God to wipe the giants out and actions of men to help or hinder.  There is going to be some Wrath of God kind of stuff coming up.  Some true Fire and Brimstone.  Jealousy and rage and paranoia.  The kind of stuff that will also show how even though we fail, God comes through.

Blessings of the Lord upon you, your family and friends.

Also, if you have any prayer requests or questions let me know.  I’ll listen, talk, and pray for whomever.
